Hi

I was going to change the lights in my garage to LED's but the consumer unit looked a bit old, so switch the garage circuit off on the main board, removed the cover and found this.

At this point I thought "I'm outta here" and put the cover back on.

I presume this is all sorts of bad?

Time to call a professional :D

Its old but not necessarily in need of replacing.
Appears lack of RCD unless there is one in the house but that can easily be added into the wiring after the board.
as you have said probably best to call a local electrician in rather than playing with things you are not sure about.

What about those CPCs all bunched up, co conector just twisted together

Fair shout on the replacement but I have come across old boards that were in need of being tidied up rather than replaced. on a cost/time basis it will in all likelihood be quicker to put a new one in.

Gavin the Board is not safe, look at the cpcs all twisted together, hardly compliant, maybe at the time of installation, HT is correct that needs changing, I certainly would recommend replacement if it was my project.

Got someone coming round to quote for a new board and probably re-do all the wiring.
The previous owner had a "unique" style of wiring!

Probably installed by that Russian from one of Pete’s videos.

Nothing a little BG garage unit would not sort out. They are cheap and quite adequate for that situation. Look like a couple of hours work given that the supply is up to scratch. Maybe a pic of the supply to the board could be helpful for further input?

Sorry, do you mean the main board or a pic of the wire that feeds this?
