Hi all,

this is my first post here.
I have recently moved in a house with a small garden (~6 m x 4 m) and a shed in the corner. The shed has no mains in it but the previous owner drilled a hole in the house wall and passed though it an armored cable which acts as a very long extension cable: one ends has a plug which can be connected to the mains, the other end of the cable has an outlet in the shed.
the cable runs along the ground in the garden, so it is visible and unprotected. The attached picture gives an idea of the setup.

Obviously this is "not ideal", especially because we do gardening and I'd rather have the cable away from the ground.
What I was planning to do is install a PVC conduit above ground along the garden wall and use IP rated boxes (one outside the house wall, one in the shed) but I wonder if some expert might have other ideas for the job.

Thanks for any help.
Luca

External works in the garden are notifiable to building control as it is deemed a speacial location, i would get an expert in to design it and carry out the works,

Keep it safe keep it real

Thanks a1guvner,

the fact is that I do not own the place so the options are limited: either live with the current situation or do something myself which would not require a big investment.

EDIT:

@GLENNSPARK
i am not sure about what you are asking.
The outlet in the shed is metallic, with earthing being provided by the cable.
The remaining of the house electric system has been recently checked by a proper electrician (who obviously stated that the extension cable was not ok).

what i`m thinking here is if its TT...you up front RCD the armoured .....if a TN system....you can use a garage c/u in the shed and RCD it there...and its armoured by the way so you dont need to run it in conduit ....just cleat it to the wall/fence....just be sure the fence is sound and secure......

Inform your LL as he should be aware that on the test it was not ok, put the onus on them to do it properly
