I recently purchased a Natural Gas generator and was prepared to purchase a transfer switch, when I learned that my new generator has a bonded neutral, and that this particular manufacturer, Firman, does not allow you to disconnect the neural (modification voids warranty). I decided to purchase a 3-Pole Double throw disc. Switch and install a sub panel to get around this issue.

My question: Does the sub panel require a Main Breaker, or can I use a MLO and rely on the Generator for overcurrent protection?

Sorry for the delay but it says that the neutral is bonded to the frame is a good thing. Yes you can use a main lug as your sub- panel and all you need is 2 poles because you don’t want to break the neutral. By breaking the neutral your generator becomes a separately derived system which has it on Article in the NEC and more changes. Stay safe
