I currently work full time Monday to Friday on a shift pattern, I’m 24 years old and have bills to pay and a child on the way. I’m looking for a career I can work hard in and progress as I go on. But I don’t know how to get into the electrics trade, do I go to a local college to get qualifications? Or do I need to take a pay drop and go into training on the job? Any advice would be top ??

both. college theory is no use if you can't get the practical experience.

So you’d recommend taking up work in the trade and going on a college course to get qualifications and after I’ve completed that job prospects would be good?

college can be done 2 evenings a week for level 2 and 3. if you could get work in the trade as amate, you'd seriously need to consider if the wages were enough to support you and your family. mate's rates are around £15/hour, so not brilliant.

Thanks for the advice, I’m looking around now for any work going in my area. I know my local college does electrical courses two evenings a week
