Discuss going rate for a supervisor? in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Hi all, I have two job offers from two different companies as a supervisor which is great but they of course will want to know how much I am looking for. Duties basically include looking after the entire site team and running multiple large jobs. Also training employees in our field of electrical work. One of the companies has quoted £16m worth of work for next year alone. It would be a mainly off the tools job and it is based in the south east. I have 10 years of experience in this field and I am a fully qualified electrician.

Any ideas what i should be asking for here? Would be good to hear from other people already in this kind of role.

Sounds like you will be under pressure, if your on the books in that role then an hourly rate of 15-16 plus a van and phone outside london the minimum I would accept, inside london add a fiver to it, however your probably worth twice that as we sparks are actual skilled men compaired to other trades IMO, trouble will be the companies who employ, they will probably want to pay the approved rate plus 50 pence on the top, JMO, good luck anyhow I hope it works out for you and you get at least 35k a year in that role bud.

Both roles will be with a van/car and all expenses paid. 10 hours a day. Majority of work will be central london, a fiver seems a lot to add per hour? I was thinking between 15-16 per hour but i checked the hmrc website and it says above 34370 pa will take you into 40% tax bracket?

But you only pay 40% tax on what you earn above the tax threshold, not a reason to accept a lower pay rate.

I'm sure they have an idea of what they want to pay you, you just need to make sure your request its not too much lower than their upper limit.

london weighting rates mate, for a man of your ability 35k a year plus the van and phone and all expensies working in london is a bargain, I think you deserve a decent rate of pay myself, my post man earns 25k a year I should have thought and has no responsibility and gets to wear shorts to work in the summer haha
