We have this thread on TilersForums.com and it's just been restarted because the old thread had 20,000 replies and 500,000 views. And there were 700 pages. Started to lag a bit on slow connections.

I think we had a bash of this before, but I can't find the thread, so thought I'd start another one off.

If you have time in the mornings, come post in the thread before you head off to work, let us know what you've got on and what the weather is like in your area etc. Anything at all is fine. :)

Posts and likes get counted towards your total stats in this thread.

So GOOOD MORNING PEOPLE - WEATHER IS NICE TODAY IN STOKE. I'M THANKFUL IT'S FRIDAY, HAD A RUBBISH WEEK. THANK GOD IT'S OVER.

Yesterday helping a friend - she is renting out her old home and complaint of shower not getting hot. So she bought a new electric shower and I was volunteered to help replace it. Try shower, push button and water comes out cold as they said. Though I would see what happened with power off - same.

Odd, I had assumed such showers needed power to operate at all. Having checked the MCB had not tripped then looked for any isolator switch but could not find one. The couple renting had already looked any they could not find anything either.

Open CU to see if cable had come loose and see the T&E going to an unmarked black metal switch above the CU - the missing isolator! So working again without having to get my wet pants on - result :)

My friend and her late husband had been in that property for over 15 years and no idea there was a shower switch!

Wonder who switched it off?

My brother in law gets married again next week with a reception at their home. The garden lights trip the RCD; could I take a look and fix them before the happy day?

So the morning after the Saturday night before….

Eurovision. Putin… I blame you that the uk didn’t win.

I posted some predictions a few weeks ago… let’s see how I got on..

1. UK will come last again. It’s getting ridiculous. Politics, brexit, wearing the wrong colour of socks… There really is no reason we come last so often, other than corruption within the Eurovision organisation itself. The UK media will spend the next month complaining, then start being all optimistic again come next March.

How wrong I was

2. Someone will drop the F bomb live on stage.
I believe last time that happened was when Aqua were the half time show, and “Barbie girl” told her Ken to F off

Nothing I noticed, but some lyrics needed to be changed for being “rude”

3. A.J Odudu will announce the scores of the UK jury. An accent that most English speakers have trouble understanding, nevermind the rest of Europe. As bad as using someone from the Scottish Highlands

I heard about this beforehand.

4. Ukraine will win. With a clear 200 points between them and 2nd place. Purely political of course. Although, at the moment, they won’t be able to host next year.

Spot on!

5. Female singers “wardrobe malfunction”

The female presenter did a medley of songs during the half time. She had costume changes during the performance and was seen to be holding her jacket shut as she was singing before revealing her next costume.
I’ll take that

6. Just because a rock song won last year is no guarantee one will win this year. So all the countries that went rocky this year have wasted their chance. The Rasmus from Finland for example… last heard of in 2003 with “In The Shadows”

Again, spot on. The Rasmus were the only rock band to get through the semi’s, but ended up not scoring much at all.

7. Subwoolfer from Norway will remove their masks and be revealed as Geordie jokers Ant and Dec..
Ok, I’m stretching things a bit there… but there is a rumour that they are the same people that are behind Ylvis… who had a song “what does the fox say” in 2013
Sorry, that songs in your head now.

Still no idea who they are

8. Quirkiest act is Circus Mircas from Georgia. Will not make it past the semi finals.

Did not make it past the semi finals.

9. The Latvian entry “eat your salad” will promote veganism across the world… forcing livestock farmers to ditch rearing animals.. many going out of business and thousands of cows and sheep being released into the wild as there’s no longer a market for the meat.

As if.

10. Someone’s staging will go wrong. Either on the backing screen plays wrong clip, or the pyrotechnics go off prematurely, or disastrously overdone.

No, but a couple of the country’s spokespersons announcements didn’t show and had to be announced by someone else.

Reasonable attempt but could do better. C-

Come on….. no one really thought the UK would be near the top, never mind coming second!

First, if there wasn’t the Europe wide public support for Ukraine. It truly wasn’t the best song.. The professional jurors put UK first, it was the public vote that sent Ukraines points sky high

What are people going to think if the Ukraine “win” the football for just basically turning up?

Told my wife I was going to the gym today….

She almost choked on her breakfast mars bar….

No… I am! They want a key fob access system put in place and I’m going to have a look.

But while I’m there…. What’s best for middle age spread/ beer gut?
I’m thinking maximum reduction with minimal effort..

I think most of us are looking for that, if you find it please let us know!

Sadly it is hard to burn more calories by exercise, of course it helps, but if you try working out how much you need to do to overcome a single biscuit it is rather depressing. Eating / drinking a bit less is probably the answer, but damn hard to stick to.

I use my mountain bike most days, but never go to the gym. I would say I'm generally fit, but I also am starting with a beer gut. One of my hobbies is beer, so the input is going to remain. I may start situps though and see if that helps.

Today was blood donor day again....

Eldest is down for a few weeks as her uni is finished for the summer, so she tagged along. Have to book a time now, so we were booked at the same time... trotted along to the local hall where it was taken place and got in. She got taken first... shes at 9 donations, i'm at 52.
Taken first, finished first... shes up and away for her biscuit... Im finished... sitting having my orange juice and can see her down the hallway sitting on a chair at the door, waiting for me.

or so i thought

A minute later, i see her staggering toward the door into the hall, and almost falling against the wall....

I'm up and away... if i was still hooked up to the bag, id be taking it with me!
I got to her same time as a couple of the nurses who were standing a lot closer... They get her up onto the "dizzy bed" and she's slowly gaining colour to her face again.

We don't know how it happened... She's been fine every other time. Maybe just the heat.
She was sitting at the door, which was open, to get some fresh air... But she says she felt a bit headachey, her vision blurred a bit, and started getting dark.
She had the thought of getting up and coming back into the hall, rather than fainting at the outside door and maybe not getting noticed straight away. Didn't quite make it.

She's under strict instructions for no alcohol, rest and no exercise. Difficult for a student that first one.

All this excitement... i had to take an extra Tunnocks Caramel Wafer away.

Following on from #831, I’m going back to the gym next week to have a look at their lighting and ventilation.

They’re needing something to cool the place down now that they have access control, they don’t leave the doors open.

I think they have a 2 foot wide fan on the wall, a leftover from the previous business that was in the building, but I’ve no idea if it works, if it has speed control or if it can be reversed.

Not sure if AC would be the answer, or if I can fit that myself without the need for a specialist company.

Got my celebrity endorsement last time as it’s the gym where a competitor from ITVs Ninja Warrior trains.

True Air Conditioning is a specialist installation with outside compressor units and ducting to each room, however, split units which are readily available are usually pre-charged and can be put up by any handyman, the only thing to be careful of is the condensation from the inside heat exchanger, so best on the inside of an outer wall.

Further to my #812 - a little more progress. I only decode Gray code states 0 to 12 because the connector strips on the bottom veroboard only had 12 positions.

Next step is to adapt the design to show the Gray code encoded valve position state using one 8 x 5 led matrix and include the option of selecting one of four character sets.
5 x 7 0.7" (18mm) White Dot Matrix Display - Forge Europa - https://www.forge.co.uk/products/dot-matrix/5x7-0-7-18mm-white-dot-matrix-display

This design project is the latest one which has been set to the young electrician doing an hnc in EE. I thought I ought to do it in order to more helpfully be his mentor by understanding it practically myself.
The next stage of this HNC digital electronics project is to swap the 7 segment display - showing 0 to 15 to indicate the state of open/close of the valve with a 7 x 5 led matrix and indicate the state of the valve by the letters A to P (16 letters). I am doing this as a one-to-one tutorial.

My/our progress is in the attachment which shows the 5 columns being scanned slowly.
