My comment about Detroit relates to the fact that some cities are so well-known and/or influential that they unfairly represent a much larger region in the minds of non-residents. San Francisco, Seattle, New York City, London, Paris, Tokyo etc. So if you're reading about Detroit you are almost certainly not getting a sense of the rest of Michigan (positive or negative). So in keeping with my understanding of guidelines here, I should point you toward my query in the DIY forum concerning voltage drop in a generator scenario.
