We have just commissioned a 10kWp ground mount system today and our customer is worried about theft. It is a rural location and although it is feeding the house it is in a location where it is quite hidden.

Is there a system out there to protect ground mount systems or does anyone have a suggestion for how to protect the system?

external ir beams, linked to an alarm system

Schuco offer anti theft devices for their clips - they essentially do the same job as the ball bearings suggested above.

Like your thinking, a good low tech solution.

Can also offer him something more impressive with IR but there are lots of deer around so IR is not that practical without lots of false alarms. Is there a battery operated single zone alarm available?

This should do it

Mount the entire array on insulated rubber feet and drop a DC cable to the array frame. Any potential thief will ground it out when they touch it at a DC voltage of about.......................?

as dansk says use snap wire, its an old way of protecting things but its false alarm proof, its basic but it works
