I recently purchased a house that had some 2 prong outlets. The second floor, the kitchen, basement all have properly grounded 3 prong outlets according to the inspector. The living and dining room have 2 prong outlets. I opened one of the 2 prong outlets up and was wondering does an entirely new electrical wire need to be run for these or is there a way to ground them using the current wires? I saw what looked like a third ground wire in there but I’m not sure. Not sure what kind expense I should expect to get these properly grounded. I assume can’t do it myself.

@Tad1611 welcome to the forum and it’s hard to see but it does appear to have a ground wire in the box according to the pic you have posted but if they are in fact no grounds yes you would have to run an extra wire From the panel to properly ground them

Thanks it looks like the line from the circuit has the 2 wires with the ground Which I think would make it good to ground not sure why it wasn’t hooked up to grounds initially
