Hello all,
I have absolutely no experience of installing the above so some advice would be much appreciated.
For a domestic property I need to install a heat detector and the a number of smoke detectors.
Is it as simple as running twin and earth to the heat detector and the 3 core and earth to each subsequent smoke detector?
If it is, how are they wired at each detector and what colours are used?
If not, what is the best way?
Please feel free to be as basic as you like in your advice as I am not the brightest:)

Thanks in advance

Gerry

from a convenient light, on a frequently used lighting circuit, T/E perm. L/N to first detector, then 3 core looped from 1 to 2 to 3 etc. the terminals are marked L,N, sig. (ast mat be labelled differentl depending on make, but it's quite obvious). colour wise, generally use black for perm.L, brown for sig, grey for N. black/brown can be the other way, your choice). remember to sleeve accordingly. i have omitted cpc for ease of description, but this must be continuous. there usually is a terminal for this in each detector. you could install on a dedicated circuit from the CU on a 6A MCB. RCD protection would only be necessary if cables buried in walls <50mm etc.

Hi Gerry,
As telectrix has said correctly and to help:
You could also go on line and down load user / installer manuals. Some are available from www.smoke-alarms.co.uk and other sites.
You can also get building regs free if you down load the on line versions from the planning portal of the governments website. Part B is certainly worth knowing.
You can also check with your approved body (NICEIC, NAPIT, ECA etc who may be able to give you advice).

Hope this helps.

Best wishes

Rex
