Looking for advice on what is probably a very basic question. We will NOT being doing any of the work mentioned ourselves!

Our mains supply is via underground cable to the back of the house, with meter on back external wall. Then comes into the house through the wall to the consumer unit.

We are having work done at the back of the house and will need to alter the mains supply and move the meter to the side of the house.

What happens to the consumer unit? Does it also have to move? Is that not prohibitively expensive? If it doesn’t move, how does it get wired back up to the new supply.

Probably a very basic question, sorry.

Consumer unit can stay or could be moved, distance from new meter position will be a determining factor.

The cost of moving the Consumer unit is likely to be far less than moving the supply cable and meter, typically £1000 minimum plus cost of you arranging a new external meter box.

Thank you for replying so quickly. Have elec co coming to quote for the service alteration next week, so we’ll take it from there, sounds like that’s going to be more than we thought
