Hi,

I'm in need of some help. What is the best way of acheiving a HDMI connection from a remote HD source to the flat screen on the wall? All cables concealed and its all flat plate..

Bought a couple of these HDMI outlets, but can't honestly see that it'll work, even with a 47mm box.

I'v seen these brush plates, where I assume you just leave a foot or so of HDMI cable sticking out of the box?

I honestly can't see the best way or doing it!

Thanks

richard, my preferred way is to use a normal one gang box with one end fully cut out ( as the HDMI cables wont go through the 20mm hole, then i simply use a 1g blanks plate and with a round file i cut away a half circle for the cable to come through and leave it hanging to go straight into the tv, and the same at the other end - to me the less connections there are the better for signal quality. It is always hidden behind sometghing so fine that way! I have used those HDMI plates doing installs on an empty house but reluctant as they are hard to plug in inside the boxes. You could use the brush plates rather than a blank but to me they're a waste of money!

Hi i have done quite alot of audio visual installation,i have also found that the clip in modules for hdmi can be quite tricky, but you do get used to them after a while.
Another option is to use a clip in module that has screw terminals,so you can get an hdmi lead, chop off the end or ends. An online shop called euronetwork used to supply these, they also do a prewired version with it all terminated into a front plate for you,if you tell them what your trying to do,how many hdmis cable lengths etc they will make one up for you
Hope this helps

Delboy - is it easy to terminate the ends of the HDMI - i've never chopped one up before! Not sure how many cores etc there are - can you use something like Cat 5 and terminate them that way - that would be much easier!

I'v heartd that you can push HD over Cat 6...is there any truth in this??

Thanks

Hi sc sorry for late reply just got in from work,it is a bit fiddly with the hdmi lead to individually terminate each core yes, but it makes it easier for putting the front plate on knowing theres no danger of crushing cables, suppose you have to take the rough with the smooth,
Yes you can use cat 5 or cat 6 baluns to run hdmi over distance, but be sure to get a reputable make or you could be in danger or signal loss, audio time delay, edid and hdcp handshake problems.
In short hdmi is a real nightmare to run over distances,so advice would be to with a larger branded name made and distributed here not in china.you pay more for it but once the cables are buried in the wall and plastered over yoir pretty much stuck if the stuff doesnt work.
Sorry for the rant 

I push HDMI over CAT5 from our sitting room to the Bedroom, Probably a 10-15 mtr run plate to plate. The HDMI sender/reciever I got was rated at full HD to about 40mtrs before signal loss etc. I did see some at 100mtrs but a lot more expensive. It does a pretty good job, even with the signal split when it come out of the sky box. Although as a rule if the TV is on upstairs, the one downstairs isn't.
