Heating a phase under tension experiment.

I would like to know what happens exactly when apply heat to an insulated phase under tension . Even over the fusion temp of the insulated protection.

Best Regards

Could the OP maybe start with what he knows about the relationship between a conductor and its' resistance, when heated? :conehead:

I give up. If the OP knows what he’s looking for Google is the best bet. Stop wasting my time as I’m not playing guessing games.

Apply sufficient thermal energy to the insulated cable in question, and I suspect that will the insulation will start to melt and part company with it's intimately enclosed conductor.

Im lost too .. he ask about heating a up insulation beyond its limits then when tony suggests a blow torch he says thats destuctive... so what exactly do you think your query is if not destructive ?

Thanks everyone.
When heat is applyed to an electric conductor the resistance grow and the life of the wire diminish.
If applied enough heat the insulation cover melts and the wire suffer directly the effects of the flame.

I would like to know when the circuit protections will act ?

Best Regards

The circuit protection may not ever act, for the wire to get so hot it melts its own insulation off there has to be something wrong either a loose connection, high impedance fault or incorrectly designed circuit to name a few common causes, if the cable is part of a multi-core cable the end result is more likely to be a short circuit which should operate the protective device, if and when the circuit protection operates will depend on many variables so watching a video of one set-up will not show you what will happen under differing conditions.

Go on youtube and look up overloaded cable ... really not the hardest thing to look for, cannot understand why your asking for links to an easily sourced vids but as you seem unable to do this here's a link that took 5seconds to find...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBYHtBPbBJE
