Hi
What is min distance between hot water pipe and swa or cat6 cable? can be run in the same box or no? I Just asking because plumber said its ok.For me not .I told him to put insulation on hot water pipes to keep normal ambient temperature.he said i dont need. Please help
Thanks

Separation of LV and cat6 is required. They should not be in the same containment. If the SWA cct has been designed with the ambient temperature taken into account obviously higher with hot water pipe then its ok. However I would say it seems silly to purposefully place a current carryingt cable next to water especially hot water. The plumber is not competent to judge electrical matters anyway. I think its a matter of what is best practice. I would be reluctant to place them together personally.

Agree with V. If the SWA is in a temp environment hotter than the rating temp (e.g. 30 deg in table 4D2A) then it should be derated for CCC. Some folks run their HW at 70 deg and this is the max temp for lots of our cables, so it's not a good idea, cable needs to be kept away from heat sources. Far be it from me to tell a plumber what to do, but I thought all H/W pipes had to be insulated by building regs now?
