Hi All,

I just thought I'd say a quick hello and ask some advice.
I'm not an electrician and I'm looking to get involved an qualified in the industry. Whilst I don't want to be working for other people apart from the odd job to help a mate or family out I'd still like to achieve the qualifications.

I work shifts so have 2 weeks off a month and have been passing the time doing house flips so would like to be able to carry out the installation and testing on these projects.

I'm willing to work for free to help out an electrician out on big jobs etc to gain experience as needed. My electrical and general hand skills are pretty good (I've worked with an electrician before so I do everything but the board change). My job means I understand a bit of general theory too.

Cost and time isn't a huge issue for me, I just like to learn and this is something that interests me and I enjoy the subject. I've got 4 flat re-wires to do over the coming months so it would be good if I could learn the necessary to work towards certifying these.

Thanks,

Owain

Welcome to the forum Owain. You sound busy. Sounds like you want to get in with a local spark that isn’t too busy, you can do the grunt work for experience and they can keep an eye on design, install and test 1st and 2nd fix. You’ll get the experience and you’ll get the certificates this way.
I wouldn’t, though, be thinking that you could do it all yourself - you’ll become unstuck.
Search around for recommendations and have a chat over a cuppa.

Thanks TJ.
I draw up what circuits I want and the outlet locations etc and run it through with an electrician. I do the re-wire and terminate leaving everything open for inspection then he tests it for me.
