Hello:

In all honesty I'm primarily posting to keep my account alive! I often come here for advice and read threads for tips on approaching particular jobs though.

Having said that, if anyone reads this and has opinions on wifi sockets, smart electrics I would be interested to hear them. I'm currently installing some Orvibo sockets for garden LEDs - it was the best solution for switching in this case and they're working well so far. Customer very happy switching lights on and off from the iPad!

Hi mot, I really don't know what to think about smart homes. My son wants to develop software for it, and use me to give opinion on the practicalities of it. He was talking about fully smart homes (which exist) where even the door is operated by smart phone. However he did speak of people getting hacked, and locked in and out of their homes. Sounds like it needs a lot of developing to me! Also the industry is fairly new(ish) and there is such a confusing plethora of possibilities out there. So I am rather ambivalent about it all.
