Hi folks, my name is Ralph but prefer to be called Coin or Coinhunter. I am an avid DIY'r who dabbles in a little of everything from repairing televisions to wood working, welding, and treasure hunting. I love metal detecting in water, sand or dirt and own 10 different machines specialized for what and where I am hunting. I have several master electrician friends who are all on jobs right now so I am hoping you guys can help me solve a perplexing problem.

My bud bought an old home with the old type of screw in fuse box. He has 3 General Electric air conditioners all brand new and none of them will work. 2 of them are 115v ac units and the other is a 220v ac unit. We plugged a unit into a known good outlet tested with a fan first and nothing happens. It refuses to turn on, light up absolutely nothing happens. So we try the second unit and we experience the exact same results nothing. We now try the 220v unit and it does nothing either. Now I have used my ohm meter and verified there is voltage, used a portable fan and it works, and finally a lamp and it works. I have zero ideas of what is wrong or going on. I feel it is something really simple but I am lost, lost lost. Can anyone please help me solve this problem? Thanks in advance.

You didn’t state how old the house was but the Edison base fuses tells it all. For the 120vac receptacle, do you have a constant voltage. As far as the 240 vac and it’s not working either so that would take me straight to the panel. Air conditioners pull a lot more amps than a fan. It sounds to me like your panel is so old that you either have loose connections or it’s such bad shape it’s loosing its ability to conduct electricity. I just tore a panel like that which was blowing fuses about everyday. Replace the panel and take the guts out of it and use it for a junction box and then your problems are solved

I remember lots of Knives and gun shops and tiny chapels offering 30 second marriages !
Yes plenty of knives and guns. We didn’t have a quickie marriage, it cost me $ 1500.00 but had a limousine and a chalet on the side of the mountain and that was 27 years ago
