Good afternoon. i have a rent your roof system of 12 panels. the sun is out at the moment and my monitor is telling me i am producing 1.8 KW of power. The inverter is also reading the same, so how come my meter out side the house is busy flashing on the 1000w setting and rising, in the house powered on is the following, small fridge, fridge/freezer, freezer, pc, virgin box in standby, house telephone, and not any thing else of great size.
I was under the impression that my meter out side would not be reading when i am making it and not using it all. any ideas.

Nige.

When you say that your meter outside is flashing on 1000W, do you mean 1000kWh?

If I were you, I would switch everything in the house off - preferably from the CU. Then I would monitor the meter and see what it starts reading. If it goes up then you may need your meter changing. It could be that your meter is registering exported electricity and adding it to your meter.

yes sorry i do mean 1000kWh. i will give this a try, the meter was changed when the system was installed as i had an old dial one. thanks

Just to get the terminology and units right I suspect that your meter flashes 1,000 times for every 1 kWh that it records. So each individual flash is the same as 1 Wh.

Some meters flash when they are exporting so it should only be a concern if the meter reading itself is going up while the PV is producing more than you are consuming in the house.
