I am not an electrician but fitted a few light fittings and thought it was pretty straight forward but that is the extent of my knowledge. This one, however, wont turn off. Just moved into a new build and took previous light fitting from my other house. When i have fitted it, the light wont turn off at the switch. The previous light fitting had several terminals for the wires to go into whereas the new has only 1 for each colour. So 4 wires are currently rammed into one side and 2 into the other (see photos). I know I am doing something wrong and I know its a probably an easy fix, I just dont know what... any help is much appreciated

Either reinstate the original fitting or call an electrician. The chances of you connecting that new fitting in a safe manner even if you know which wire to connect and to where are zero. That is an accident waiting to happen.

agree with westie. that joint box in the new fitting is not suitable for the configuration of the wiring. call an electrician while you still live. :(

The reason your light wont turn off is because you have joined all the brown cables together, basically omitting the switch, best option call an electrician to sort it for you, a simple job, for a savvy electrician.

I love this forum!
That terminal box - I wonder if anyone has ever used it when installing a light
Do as they say ^^^^^^^ and learn from this experience!

I do wonder how these idiotic manufacturers expect people to cope with loop in method wiring?
It's because they know electricians can think outside of the box - that's why they don't make it easy! We're the best!
