So the Mrs went out today and brought two new light fittings...I called my electrician to put them up but unfortunately he died on the way round....Being the hero I am, I thought I'll put them up myself. I mean how Hard can it be? It's not like you need much intelligence to be an electrician...maybe just a tad more clever than a general labourer! I'm not really interested in paying one of you clowns to come and sort it out, so could one of you tell me what wire goes where? Possibly pretty sharpish before the Mrs gets home.

Well the wiring looks like LSOH so you may not choke from the fumes when your house goes up in smoke because you couldn’t be bothered to call an electrician.

I don't mean any disrespect to the original poster, but if you want help here then you're going to have to be completely honest with us.

Your electrician didn't really die, did they?

I'm trying to be as delicate as I can, but might the truth actually be that they went on holiday?

If you can let us know, then we might be able to help, as this sort of technical information is really important to help you (sorry, us) solve your problem for you.

Okay...you caught me out! He's actually on top of a mountain in Tibet at the moment....probably booked a last minute on the promise of putting up my light fittings. Rip of merchants the lot of you!

OP turn off the main switch for everything and leave the house immediately, that green sleeving hasn't been available since 1908 so you wiring is very dangerous and could burn the house down at any moment - and can you see if there is an RCD and can you test for earth continuity in the circuit eh ???
