Evening all,

Firstly I have zero experience working with solar installations so hopefully somebody can help me out?....

Ive been asked by a farmer friend if I can install a floodlight for security/deterrent reasons on a remote storage shed and im guessing solar is the only option as no power on the site.
Id like to know what specification of kit is required to power minimum 50w>max 100w LED light?
Ideally either PIR or timer activated to save on battery consumption.
Also roughly what could you expect to pay for the materials only?

Thanks :)

You don't need a big solar module and a big battery. If you are using a sensor based light then a small battery is fine. It then needs to be kept fully charged on an average winters day. I suggest for a 50watt sensor floodlight set to activate for 30 seconds a time you have a 40-50w module with a 8ah battery. The solar charger can be a small 5amp. Do not use LCD display as this is useless and uses power all the time. I have a 40 watt gate lighting using 50wp and 2 small sealed batteries and it has been running 2 years. The battery and controller are in a plastic enclosure on the pole under the module. You need to make sure the sensor is not picking up foxes etc. It is a deterrent not a source of light for thieves to work by. A 30 watt light will illuminate a very large area and save a large chunk of battery power.
