Help With Wiring 3 Switches To One Extractor Fan

I live in a flat in Leeds and am needing some advice.

I have one extractor fan that connects to two bathrooms (Call them A and B). The switching on of a light for either should turn the fan on. Also in the kitchen there is a switch incase we need to turn it on there too. There is a ceiling vents in each of the three rooms. We are like 99.9% sure this is how it worked when we moved in.

However since then we have changed the switch (Lets call this bathroom A) for a chrome one and now whenever we turn the switch on in Bathroom B it turns the light on in both Bathroom A and B. The fan also comes on like it should.

Bathroom A switch just turns on A's Light and also the fan.

We have spoken to an electrician and he said that the light switch to bathroom A must of been a switch with 2 switches on it (2 gang is it?) Both me and my partner are 99.9% sure that this wasn't the case though.

Can anyone confirm what we need to do and if it is at all possible to have only one switch work each rooms light and the fan. We really wish we had kept the other switch however we didn't know it was a problem as we didn't use bathroom B much so didn't notice the issue of the light coming on in A and B when you press B's switch.

Any advice would be greatly received. And if you need me to clarify anything or take pictures then just let me know.

Double pole switch. 1 pole switches the fan, the other pole switches the light.

Yes as Archy mentioned, a double pole switch is required for this setup, not a 2 gang switch like you were wrongly informed. I have worked in quite a few new build properties that are wired like this, and a double pole switch is necessary to avoid the problem you have encountered. Have a look where you bought the switch from and see if they do that range in a double pole version, normally they are rated with higher Amp rating but still fine to use.
The Only problem you might have now is wiring up the correct switch properly when you get one !

Yes they will both need to be double pole. Also be sure to safely isolate the circuit at the source as turning on the other switch will make the common fan switched feed live.

Thanks guys I have ordered some today. Hopefully will arrive tomorrow so i can fit them. Not cheap on amazon the Schneider Ultimate screwless for double pole! Will let you know how I get on.
