Just wanted to say Hi, am new to this forum. Been an Qualified electrician since 1972. (Saying it like that makes me feel old!) Run a business in Ripon with my son, also an Electrician.

I heard a rumour that the rules have changed for any Domestic jobs and that you have to do a Risk assessment for each and every job. Does anyone know anything about this?
Any advice grateful

Welcome to the forum.

I think possibly you are thinking of the new requirement to provide a detailed risk assessment (attached to the EIC) if you are planning to omit 30mA RCD protection from socket outlets <=20A in non dwelling locations.

In general work you would always be expected to be working within the strictures of a risk assessment, whether that was prepared for each job or covered by generic risk assessments is down to your company policy and approach to risk assessment.

Enjoy the forum.

Evening all. I have carried out an EICR on a small commercial building. I have stated that I will label up sockets for fixed equipment such as PC's and printers as it is an office space. I have also stated I will label up the remaining sockets 2-3 per pillar as general use.

I have stated that the general use sockets should be RCD outlets and the customer got super ****ed off at me. Apart from the regs book, is there anywhere or anyone that can inform said customer that I am not being over cautious, or am I being over cautious?

I would just apply a code C3 for the lack of RCD protection, unless they're used for mobile equipment outdoors, in a location containing a bath or shower, or provided for unsupervised use by the general public.

as spin says. you can only recommend RCD protection. it's no more than a C3 and so the EICR should be a satisfactory ( excepting the C2 possibilities outlined by spin)

The only thing changed recently , was on domestics, was CDM in April 2015, where domestic builders needed to do RAMS for each job. CITB brought out an app CDM wizzard app. which is quite simple to do and made you compliant to HSE. How it works in for rewires etc I am not 100%.

But I believe this is what is the cause of the rumour. For the OP. But as quite rightly pointed out we all do RAMS for all our work.

CDM Wizard app - CITB

I have only applied a C3 and confirmed that the practice manager has a risk assessment in place and that the staff are aware and have read EAWR.

So RCD's to all sockets is still only a C3 as before, unless its domestic and Risk assessments are in place?
