Discuss Hi guys, just wanted to know if anyone knows of a single outdoor socket that has a removable fuse. I need to put 3amp fuse in it. Cheers in the UK Electrical Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

It's for a ELV plug. I'm putting a cctv camera in the garden, the customer doesn't want any chasing or anything in the house. So the only option I had was to remove the outdoor lighting and put a 3amp fused socket, and luckily it's two plate so there's a neutral. So just want keep things compact.

What is the purpose of the 3A fuse?

Just for additional protection, just in case someone changes the load to something more higher in watts in the future.

I was thinking prevent electricity theft - But if accessible will be changed !
(may need to be smaller for discrimination (MCB=6B))

It is going to be put in ip67 jb 260x260x100, which is accessible, hence I wanted to put a 3amp fuse to protect in case they change the load. If I could find a unit with a removable fuse in the socket, I could use a much smaller jb.

Higher than what? If it's a lighting circuit it is presumably already protected by a 6A OCPD so that will operate before the socket or wiring is overloaded.

If you intend to try and prevent the whole lighting circuit tripping out if a higher load is plugged in to the socket then you will achieve tjis by conne ting the socket to a power circuit and not a lighting circuit.

I think the idea is to avoid running a whole new circuit out to the garden for a few watts of PSU. For a few quid you could ditch the plug-in power supply and use a wall-mounted type with a captive mains cable. Wire it into a fused connection unit and then there's no socket to worry about.
