Hi, I'm new.
I've been working as an electrician's mate for two years doing test and inspection. I'm doing the 17th edition in September. Finally!!! What does that make me??? Can I claim to be an electrician once I have 17th?:D

Getting your 17th is unlikely to give you a pay rise. Depending what kind of electrics you doing maybe look at doing the C&G 2330 level 2 & level 3. Once you have that you are considered 'qualified' by most employers and then it is up to you whether you go on to do NCQ level 3. All in all it is 3 - 4 years of evening classes.

As i said earlier, getting the 17th is not what we would class as a financially advancing qual. Your pay is probably around £8 an hour so that is about right for a mate with 2 years experience and no quals.
