Sounds like your lecturer is being really unhelpful, unfortunately while some lecturers are experienced, and actually care about teaching and training, others, in my experience at least, don't, and think they can blag you with nonsense rather than admit they're not sure and actually finding the correct answer. Don't expect your attempts to 'educate' him to be that well recieced!! Good on you for thinking for yourself and trying the other testers.
