Hi Cunny and welcome to the forums.Always something i would like to do, is work in the middle east:D

Quick introduction, working out in middle east at present for US contractor as sparx. Interesting environment, dealing with UK & US regs, quite a challenge.
Is there much difference between the UK and US regs

Apart from the obvious with the differences in US & UK regulations, the main thing I have noticed is that the US code tells you what to do but not why you are doing it, 7671 tells you why you have to do something, but not how to do it.

hi and welcome to the crew! ( i bring da street vibes) is it true that the US use no earth and a 110V supply? if it is what supply are you using?

No, the USA definitely earth their systems (grounding). They use different words, that mean the same in the UK. Their voltage is 120v 1P, however they use lots of different voltages, depending on the star/delta windings of the transformers. They adopt a 5 wire system like us (TN-S) & will use a 4 wire system (TN-C) where they build their 5th conductor themselves (put the N-PE link in at the Panel, done by the sparx, not the utilities) to make it TN-C-S. they arent so happy with our TT, and SWA, tending to prefer trunking & conduit for everything. 1 of The biggest difference I have seen, is the use of wire nuts (the old dogs $%%B) instead of connector blocks in ligh fittings, & they dont test like we do, hence UK sparx out here. Plus the systems we are working on are 230/400, which is our bag. All in all they are good guys to work with, albeit a little 'different'.
