Hi Guys,
On a new build at the moment, noticed mains volts is a touch high,248volts.
There was another electrician here today from the window company installing the electric blinds,
he told me about a mains conditioner unit,100amp rated that drops the mains to 230volts,and saves 17%
0n your bills, anybody know anything about these units?thanks

Hi and welcome, there is a thread a few days old about this. The general feeling was don't bother. Have a look and see for yourself. Enjoy the forum!

Nothing wrong with my maths,it can cause premature lamp failure and i thought
a 17% saving is worth having.just wanted to know any opinions thats all.

supply voltage has a big impact on lamp life for the humble incandescent. Something like a 10% increase in volts reduces the life 4 times.
Have mentioned before that i had a client who, when i measured at that time, had a supply voltage of 251, his GU10s lasted weeks rather than months.
In fact this 10% stuff was to enable UK to comply with a 230V harmonisation without actually doing anything about it, when we all know its actually designed for 240V - so if theory 253V is ok....
Luckily my house sits around 235V -
