Hi

I need to get an electrician in to do some bits. I hear the phrase 'house rewire' quite a lot but not sure exactly what it is and what I should be asking for.

Firstly I have a relativley new (i.e last 10 years) main fusebox thing so that can stay. I assume it is a lot of work changing that.

As I will have all the ceilings down I thought it would be a good time to replace old wires (of which there are many) - some still sue the old black.red colour wire.

Its a 4 bed house. So lets say 1 light wire to 10 points and around 15 plug sockets. I also want to replace the electricial shower wire and all of the sockets/switches with new ones.

I am also going to run network cable and TV cable to every room - although it looks as though I can lay the cable and the electrcian can put it into the wall and wire it up.

There will also be some chasing in of wires.

Would you say this is a re-wire or something else?

What sort of price would I be looking at?

To be honest mate its impossible to give pricing advice without seeing the work. Could you give a more accurate location as Hampshire is rather a large place and maybe somebody on here could pm you?

The rules/regs that we have to abide to have changed in the last ten years and you will probably need to have a new C/U. This is also advisable if your having a full house rewire. Just saying this in case you think your getting ripped off by the electrician/s that come to quote this for you. You really need this looking at and quoted as above.
