Morning guys, I've been a reader of this forum for a long time but this is my first post. Just looking for some advice regarding hot tub installation.

A family friend has bought a second hand hot tub and has asked me to have a look at what they'll need for installing as they want to buy everything in before they hire anyone in to carry out the install.

If I can figure out how to attach pictures I'll show the serial plates etc.

They have an older consumer unit so I'm thinking the best approach would be installing a new separate rcd enclosure next to the board, with a 32A breaker if deemed necessary? From there a 6mm twin to run to a water proof enclosure or rotary isolator outside. From there then the option seems to be a 6mm SWA to the hot tub, or I'm thinking it may be more practical to have it on a commando plug as the location of the tub may move in future as home improvements continue.

I'm unsure if there are any further requirements, such as earth rods or anything?

Grateful for any help and advice cheers, this is a bit out of my usual scope.

I would say they need to hire the person first to do the work then get the stuff they need. Or better still let the person doing the work decide on materials and supply. It's the cart before the horse getting stuff beforehand as the person doing the job may do it differently. And thus require different things from what they have purchased already.

Welcome to the forum mate.
Seeing that you have been 'a reader of this forum for a long time' I'm surprised you didn't correct your family friend when they said ".. they want to buy everything in before they hire anyone in to carry out the install"
Not very logical. The electrician will be able to get the items cheaper than your friend. They will also buy a manufacturer brand that they trust. He will be able to see the installation route and suggest the best way to do the job..
Probably not the answer you was wanting...

Based on the fact your mate and chums will immerse themselves in water in their new (to them) sex pond, I concur with the rest and suggest you get someone in who knows this type of install for safety reasons.

DIY lighting installs are bad enough to sort out. This involves electricity and water in very close proximity. There's also earthing to take into consideration.

Get an electrician in.

Welcome! Glad to see that you have finally joined up and posted :)
