Discuss How do you decommission a light switch? Any ideas? in the DIY Electrical Advice area at ElectriciansForums.net

Disconnect the cable at source, and ideally remove it completely, then plaster over the box.
As above, but remove the box completely, as wet plaster will rust a metal box and will eventually come through to the surface.

Disconnecting maybe isn’t as easy as it sounds. It may have L&N looped at the switch, so needs a bit more work.

Can you describe why you no longer need the switch.

How do you decommission a light switch? I don't want to use a cover plate. Any ideas ?

If you don't use a cover plate (ie. you hide it) then you have lost the 'prescribed zone' that it created. So unless there is a another accessory in a straight line with it then you will need to disconnect the cable as above.
