Although this is primarily a trade forum for electricians we get lots of requests for DIY assistance so this DIY section of the forum was made specifically to accommodate those DIY requests.

Where any information is given here, it is done so with no implied or guarantee of accuracy.

As a DIY'er the minimum knowledge you should have is how to isolate circuits you're working on and how to prove that they're isolated before you proceed. To be as safe as possible it would be advisable to isolate (switch off) the entire premises at the consumer unit main isolator before proceeding with any electrical work.

Please understand the DIY forum isn't designed as a place where DIY'ers can get a complete step-by-step guide on doing their own installations.

Not allowing step by step guides is something that applies across the entire forum, not just the DIY section.

By law all electrical installastion work has to be tested and certified by a competent qualified person to ensure its safety, we can not encourage or condone people to break these laws.

Any established members with the ability to post in this part of the forum have voluntarily agreed to assist DIY'ers and they have been accepted because their forum contribution over the years has shown them as being trustworthy and experienced.

Please understand that there are certain jobs which are outside the scope of general DIY work and sometimes it's not possible to give specific advice about a circuit or a job without being able to see the complete existing layout. If an established member tells you that this is the case please be assured that his advice is coming from a concern of safety and isn't intended as a slanderous comment on your ability or lack thereof.

In appreciation of them giving their time and experience I've left this thread open so that established members can add a post below to give details of their location and the type of work they specialise in. If you need to get a professional to assist you with the job you're doing it would be great if you'd consider these guys for the work even if it's just the chance to quote.

I am one of two people that run a Co-Operative of self employed Electricians, each one of us has our own area of expertise hence the list above. This business format were put together through the hard years of the rescission and we have gone from strength to strength. 10+ man team that can do more or less anything! (and have done)

Anything from an extra socket in the bedroom to a full house re-wire, no problem.
Faulty lights in your office/pub/restaurant it will be fixed. Or if you have a large call center or nightclub that needs a re-wire/new build give me a call.

It is an old advertising saying:- "No job to big or small" and the above is what it means. Most of the forum members will be happy to give you a free quote on anything you require doing. Just post up your location in your thread and ask.

Not sure if placing this in correct place in the forums and have also placed in different area. I have issue with new set up and solic 200. As I understand it when during day and getting solar power there should normally get 3 green lights and when excess power is generated should get a single red light on display. Is this correct . I seem to get 2 red lights on display along with 1 green light. Solic was returned to Earthwise who checked out unit and sensor and they said no problem with unit. Can anyone describe the operation of their solic and help me find out if working ok or not and if problem what is wrong. The immersion heater is a new unit installed prior to fitting solic unit please help

Thank you for explaining how the DIY forum works. As an enthusiastic amateur, I agree with everything you say. I'm sure you know there are too many people out there who think that "red to red, black to black, what can go wrong". Although not qualified I fully accept that safe isolation is essential and if you don't know what that means then you shouldn't be doing it.
