im doing lighting maintenance in a school with loads of flu lights, i know the basics, dead starter or tube, how do i know if ballast r capacitor is faulty, tanx:mad:

Basically, throw it away.

By the time you have spent time fault finding, sourcing the parts and repairing, you would have paid for a new fitting complete.

All IMO.

:)

I am fairly certain that if a PF correction capacitor goes it does not stop the light from working - it just draws more current. If there are lights not working you could just substitute parts from a known working light. I remember asking when we did lighting at college " how do you check a ballast" - never got an answer

some fittings arent easy to get replacement fittings for If its not starter /tube its the Ballast/choke some electronit ballasts overheat and will reset after turning power off for a while if its wirewound ballast new ones are easily fitted Electric center and ross ussualy keep supplies of normal sizes 18,36,58,70 Btw mind fit correct starter specialy to 18w series starter they wont start with FSU
