How to fit lights to this ceiling?

I'm about to fit some LED striplights in this small warehouse as replacements for the T8's.

The existing ones just seem to be screwed into the metal strips that frame the foam tiles. Is this normal? If this is not the method of fitting what is?



The reason I ask is that I have not fitted lights into this type of ceiling before.

You should really be installing 1200x600 lighting to sit inside the grid as opposed to single battens fixed to the grids. Something along the lines of this:

If the client won't fork out for the LED panels then you'll have to fix single battens to the grid but you'll need to find a way to cover or fill the fixing holes from the previous fittings.

There’s are clips available at the wholesale that clip round grid and provides an m6 stud to hang lights off

Many years ago I fitted some where we had some special clips which had a sort of scissor action to clamp over the grid with a bolt facing downwards attached and large circular nuts that secured the fittings, all a bit vague though as it must have been 30 years back.

Maybe you could also try and upsell and offer to replace the knackered ceiling tiles. They look like Tatra - CPD, Komfort etc sell them in multipacks and they're easy to replace.

James beat me to it - so that hasn't changed much in 30 years !

A couple of battens spanning the width of the tile or a bit of ply the size of the tile on top of the tile then screw through the tile in to that.

Or be posh and get the clips that go on the grid. Once upon a time most fluorescent battens came with fixing centres at 600mm so the worked perfectly with those clips on a 600mm grid

Go to walsalls and get 600 x 600 ply pattresses and fit two for fixing over the existing holes.
