I took the lighting switch off to decorate. Have rewired the switch back up, but not working correctly.
I have 2 ceiling lights in the living room, operated by one 2 gang switch. The wires are old, there is 2 red wires and one black. There is also another short piece which bridged between 2 of the holes. On the back of the switch at the top is 2 holes with COM on both, below is 4 holes L1 L2 L1 L2. Just want to know how to rewire it back up so that the lights work separately, like they did yesterday. I should of taken a pic. Thought i could remember, clearly not.

assuming that you have the link wire between the com terminal on one switch and the com terminal on the other.

1 wire goes to L1 on left hand switch
1 wire goes to L1 on right hand switch
1 wire goes to com terminal, liked to both switches.

without any test equipment and the knowledge required to work on a live circuit.
I would suggest the following

the switch that has the ability to turn both lights on and off at the same time, swap the wires from com to L1

TURN POWER OFF BEFORE WORKING ON CIRCUIT

Hi again. I have tried it and still all over the place, I have put a red in L1 and the other red in L1 - i have put the black in a com and then used another piece of wire to connect the coms. I have tried various ways of doing it, to no avail. So frustrated was working ok in the morning. even brought a new switch.

I think you need a proper spark to look at it, 10 minute job for someone with the correct gear and knowledge.
try posting the job on here, there may well be a member that is local.
