A recent widow called requesting a new consumer unit and chatted for a while. Her husband was a member of IEE, worked for GEC / GPT and did the last rewire.
I just got sent the photo's, a rather nice mini-museum.
I think that's the first Wylex with cover intact I've seen for 4 years. I'm not sure I've ever seen a clock point on it's own fuse before either.
The Black MK unit looks disconnected. (changed my mind, maybe not!)

I'm trying to remember, is that MEM one of those with asbestos behind the fuses?
And less importantly, it's bugging me, anyone have any idea what the numbers on front of the MEM are?!

Memcert were either semi-enclosed BS3036 fuses or BS1361 fuses. Yours are almost certainly BS3036 as they are white ceramic, BS1361 were generally grey ceramic with coloured insulation for the rating but yours are all black. The asbestos will be on the actual carrier and not the base.

I've been thinking about this one a bit more - still not managed to see it for myself as it's on far edge of my patch.
Looking at first photo, I think from memory an 8 way Wylex was 280mm wide, so space is limited.
I can move or maybe dispense with the henley block once I know what the top left DB is for - if keeping it it needs new tails anyway.

Anyway, I'm contemplating putting in a dual row Hager, to avoid having to extend half of the circuits, and because it would actually fit in that space.
I've never fitted a dual-row so might be barking up wrong tree, but it does seem to be a reasonable choice in this situation.
I'm sure someone will tell me if I'm wrong!

Lady of the house looks to be a keen baker, play your cards right and home made cake might be served with your cups of tea!

@timhoward I have a Hager dual row hollow wall distribution box, unpopulated, if that is any good to you
Thanks - that's very kind of you. I've had some decent quotes for a surface mount dual row Hager and was actually thinking of battening it slightly off the wall, not going the other way into the wall. Appreciate the thought though.
Strangely there doesn't seem to be a single photo online of the innards of the Fusebox dual row offering.
I've a home for the Memera board and the little Bill SF once liberated.
That would be a pleasure. I'm booked in next Saturday - I'll be in touch.

Well, I did this one today, and I did rather enjoy it as there were a few unusual things you don't see every day. The lady of the house was sadly in hospital so her son let me in.
There was loads of spare cable on most circuits so I was able to put in a single row board after all; I've had a Lewden CU sitting on the shelf after a cancelled job so I used that in the end as it was a perfect fit.
The old gent apparently has always said he seriously hates ring final circuits and to my delight there wasn't a single one in the house. This made testing rather quick. I reflect that I could happily get used to not testing ring circuits! It generally all went smoothly.

There were a few old accessories that were much older than the wiring that supplied them - e.g. the immersion was on a 15A round pin plug and bakelite socket, on new colour T&E and new looking flex! I assumed the lack of shutters on the socket and lack of part insulated pins renders this non-compliant these days so I swapped it for a much uglier FCU. The 2 pin 2A clock socket didn't get reconnected, especially since the clock was connected with bell wire.

@Lucien Nunes I've saved the MEM unit - I'll be in touch.
