Bit perplexed by this one. A local residential home has 4 identical IBL 49400 lights, all wired the same, batteries the same (about 8 years old) and tubes the same.

When the mains power is on, 3 of the lights light up, 2 brightly, 1 dimly.
When the mains power is off, only 1 light comes on

All 4 lights have the red light indicating charging when the power is on.

I thought that these should only illuminate when the mains power fails??

Any ideas/experiences you can share with me?

Thanks:willy_nilly:

Hello mate
I've had this before but with a different make of fitting. The red (or green as it is now) led will only be on when the power is on. Turn the supply off , the led goes out and the fitting comes on. In a nutshell, the fittings are buggered. If they are 8 years old the batteries need replacing anyway, because tehese type of batteries only have a life of 4 years max. As a replacement fitting costs less than 20 quid ( please dont be tempted to the ones that 7 quid or so) its gonna be easier to change the fitting. And go for one that has a 3 year garauntee, or however that word is spelt!
Hope this helps

Thanks very useful. Pretty much as I expected.

I'm surprised your "B" word got past the moderators!
