Immobiliser issue

I'm looking at buying a 2007 Chrysler Grand Voyager which can't be started due to immobiliser issue. It's not a problem with either of the keys, but either the immobiliser or ECU. If I replace the ignition, transponder, immobiliser, and ECU from a working donor vehicle of the same model and specification, will this get the car started. Are there other considerations I need to take into account?

doubtful. there's other electronic gizmos matched up to ECU etc. best way would be to get a good independent technician with diagnostic equipment to find the fault.

I would give you a 10 to 1 chance that it would work.

telectrix is right on the money, an hours time from someone with the right knowledge and equipment and your away and motoring.

Thanks. I did contact a Chrysler used parts specialist and he said that it's ok as long as the ECU number matched the replacement ECU number. I wonder if the ECU number indicates the configuration of other electronic gizmos associated with the ECU?

beyond my pay grade. as far as motors ( cars,vans, not electric motors ) are concerned, it's hit it with a hammer, then if that doesn't work, take it to someone who knows what they're doing. there again, i drive a Toyota Hiace. it never goes wrong.

ECU's are coded to all sorts of items in the car.

The main being the speedo dial unit (can't remember the correct name currently). Main reason it's linked to this is to stop people changing the mileage by just replacing the unit.

If you know and trust the owner or seller,you can move forward with a decent diagnosis,from an auto-electrician.

Just keep in mind,a non-starter excuse,can hide a multitude of other expensive,mechanical woes.
