There's this motor that has recently developed a problem. The motor draws alot of current when running, close to three times it's rated load. Any clue to fixing it?

Also what is the motor powering? It might be a problem with that.

maybee 1 squirrel is getting more than his fair share of nuts. this would cause bad feeling from the other 2 squirrels, thus creating a phase imbalance. :90:

Haha, it's obvious when you think about it......

We would need alot more information DUCKISAR...

-How do you know its pulling 3 times as much when running, is there a Ammeter display or are you clamping the motor supply?
-As above - What is the starting nature of the motor? Is it DOL, Star/Delta, Soft Start unit or VSD to name a few methods.
-Is the motor directly driving through a shaft or do we have a pulley, sprocket etc set up?
-Have you tried to run the motor off load?
-What is the duty of the motor (What is it actually doing as a task)?
-Is it tripping a motor protective overload device?
-I take it the power has been confirmed and all phases are present at the motor?
-Have you carried out any testing of the motor?

Just a few to get us started ... :)
