Industral cable ties

Am at a factory just filling in time driving
And they have two guys installing emergency lighting
And using cable ties even in a main walk way

Dose industry not have to bother with using metal clips on exits
NB I don't think it matters much as all the rest of the wiring is like that any way

should use metal ties/fixings. BS7671 applies to industrial as well as domestic. if cables are installed on tray or in basket, though, the tray/basket is the support.

I would caution against that approach as under fault conditions the cables are very likely to break free from the cable ties and potentially collapse. Often people use stainless steel for every third cable tie - although this is often seen with fire alarm it should be done more generally! Or with an SWA it could be cleated to the tray instead of cable tied.

I would be interested to know the percentage of people who cleat SWA to basket or tray. Daz

I can see how singles would jump under fault conditions due to electromechanical stresses, but multicore cables wouldn't, would they? (where all the currents cancel out within the cable).

The individual cores of the cable will still repel under fault conditions. I've seen vids of a large multicore basically exploding on a test rig.
