Hi everyone,

I'm a newly qualified electrician and im working for a company that have asked to the fit a mccb, my boss sent me this email today and im not completely sure what he means, any help would be great as I really dont want to call him tomorrow asking how to install it. Any help would be amazing.

Here is the email:

he best course of action is to fit a new mccb in an enclosure and cable it to the board. If you remove the existing mccb you will see that the busbar connection clamp is a box type. Screw down the Allen screw almost fully and the clamp will shake out of the mccb. Do this with all three. You can then use these to connect a cable direct to the busbar stab and cable back to the new mccb. Fit cable shrouds over the busbar stabs.

Not that I personally agree with what's being suggested, but what he's saying is remove the cable clamps from within the existing MCCB and use them to clamp the cable to where the MCCB should fit on the D.B bus bars then run the cable to an enclosure with the new MCCB in.

The clamps that hold the original mccb are removable. Use these to clamp the new cable to the bus bars inside the DB.

Why are you having to change the mccb? Why not just get one that fits the board?

Also I'd avoid proteus, I've seen numerous of there mccb's fail when just being switched off, one incident involved someone being badly burned.

Sounds about right. I take it the old MCCB is faulty, so remove this take the clamps out of it and use to connect the wires going to your new MCCB that is in the box( presuming this will be done in tails). Any reason why he hasn't just sent you a replacement

Sounds like a bodge to me!!! I find proteus boards s***e. I have seen a few people install MCBs on a 3 phase board and go across 2 phases!!

Thanks guys, yes the switch is faulty and they have stopped making the switch. my boss forwarded me the email from the technical manager at proteus switchgear so I guess he knows what he's talking about, thanks for all the advise, I understand how to do it now so thanyou all.
