Installing Ducting for kitchen hood + Fused spur for oven and hob ?

Hi all,

I have recently had a new hood installed and need to install some ducting. I live in a flat with loft access its a 1 up 1 down.

I'd like to run the ducting straight up into the loft and then out through the soffit. Can someone please recommend makes of vents, ducting to use? And also where to buy from.

Also, the engineer who installed the hood also installed the electric oven and gas hob. He fitted a plug on the end of the hood , oven and hob cables and plugged them into the wall ( I wasn't too impressed with what he did but he said it will be ok + he put a 3 amp fuse in the oven plug).

Is this safe to do this or do I need to install a fused spur?

I assume your oven and hob are gas appliances?

Where is the socket that they are plugged into?

Perfectly acceptable to plug an appliance in which is under a certain wattage , there is absolutely nothing to say it must be hard wired.
As for the ducting you just need to make sure you buy the correct size to fit over the hood vent. Usually it’s 4 inch.
Keep the run as short as possible

I can’t see the new installed hood extracting over a distance of more than 3 metres.

If you’re not happy with the way your new appliances have been connected to the ‘sockets’, employ an electrician to alter things.

thanks all for your comments. Are there any ducting supplies that you can recommend or is it safe to buy some on ebay along with the vent? Also what vent is best to use for fitting onto the soffit ?

change the hood for a recirculating type. no duct required.

Your local screwfix or toolstation, or even an electrical wholesaler, will sell rigid or flexible ducting. What sort of run have you got.

What rating is the oven that has the 3A fuse fitted in it?

I'm not sure but all i know is that when the engineer left and my partner turned the oven on the fuse blew. Luckily I had a 13 amp fuse to change it with.

If it is gas the 3 amp fuse is correct.

No he was a gas engineer. But said he was competent in installing the oven as he just needed to put the plug on the end of the cable and plug it in.

It couldn't, that's why it blew!
