i would like to ask you all what training if is required for installaing solar photovaltic panels i have never done the installations before and what type of electrical certification does this installations require.
i know it would fall into a new installation catagory but is there a special method of testing this type of equipment and does it reqiure a special type of certification
any kind of help with matter would be greatly appreciated. also when doing these installations do you need to complete some kind of roof saftey course. again many thanks
if it is possible does anybody have some sort of diagrams or photos of this type of installations that would also help a lot ...

With regards to certification there is absolutely loads. Firstly you'd have to notify the DNO within 30 days after the installation is complete then you'd have notify NIC, Elecsa, Napit etc as you have installed a new circuit. With regards to testing you'd only really test the AC side of the install, so the usual IR test, Ze, Zs etc.
Have a look at ecoskies they do a couple of PV courses. I'd also recommend a working at heights course.

I have inserted a few pics of my last install.

Cheers

The MCS website leads to some the affiliated training courses and some of the affiliated accreditation organisations.
What was the route that you guys took to become MCS approved?

What was the route that you guys took to become MCS approved?

we downloaded the relevant mcs documents, MCS-001, 002, MIS-3002 and tried to figure them out, and just read up on solar pv so that we knew what we were doing for designing and installing, it was a lot of work, but was worth it, passed or assesment no probs,

Ii think anyone with a good electrical background should be able to get to grips with it on their own, the only part that is a nightmare is the paperwork, there is tons of it and all has to be referenced, you also have to have copies of all the documents cited in the mcs documents which is a pain as we ended up buying documents that when you read them were just common sense!

There are routes you can go down where you can pay to have the paperwork spoon fed to you, but not sure how acceptable they are, as our assesor didnt seem to look kindly on them.

If you want to become mcs registered with a competent person scheme then you will have to show that you have had an MCS accredited training qualification like c&g 2372
