Hi there

Looking to do some form of practical course in Instrumentation in order to strengthen my knowledge in the area, especially now as I am overseeing multidisciplinary works and not just Electrical. I was wondering if any one knew of any training courses in Scotland that would provide an understanding of basic day to day tasks of an instrument tech for example working with pressure transmitter, calibrations, Using P&ID's, etc.
I have found one course down south which I am willing to book however thought I would ask on this before I fork out the £1000. There is also short courses at the ASET facility in Aberdeen however, I'm told by a former colleague that it wasn't much use and at £1200 ex Vat I think I'll take his word.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

cheers

You could try enquiring to some of the major instrumentation manufacturers. ABB, Emerson etc. Are you looking for the training on the instruments themselves or instrumentation loop connectivity?
You might also need to consider the various hazardous area protection concepts that are employed in plant instrumentation. Make sure you have a clear understanding in what you want to get out of it before you book anything and question course content with the providers who are offering the courses.
