Hi Guys
Got interview at amey coming up for a highways electrician. Just wondering if anyone had any pointers? Its a competency based interview. Not had interview in several years so a little nervous about it.
Cheers

Research the company, remember the name of the person you are seeing.
Remember to listen, sound confident, think of examples of where you’ve excelled, such as a solution to a problem you had.
Think of a good sounding reason of why you are leaving where you are, if it’s better money / responsibility / progression / learning new things then say so.
Sound keen and excited.

A good general tip for interviews is to know your weaknesses as well as your strengths. It's a question that is often asked and one that people often aren't prepared for.

Another tip is to always have a couple of questions ready to ask the interviewer. It avoids that embarassing silence when they inevitably say 'is there anything you want to ask us?'.

If you do have questions about pay, etc. then, in my opinion, leave them till the end of the interview.

And good luck!

Ask the basics.
(1) how do you check your voltage indicators
(2) what does ZS mean
(3) if a motor runs backwards how do you correct it
(4) what does UPS mean
(5) What is section 7 of Bs7671 about
(6) what is the range of Low voltage
(7) can you draw me a picture of an RCD
(8) can you tell me what Ohms law is about
(9) what is a TT system and where would you see one
(10) what is a relay

if they can get at least 8 right then they are worth talking to, anything less, just get them out of the door
