hi guys, i have an ipaf course coming up to drive sissor lifts and cherry pickers, been driving them for years but they have clamped down big time now so need a license.

how hard is it to pass?? i read there is loads of theory which im shocked at as i would of thought it would be machine training.

im sure some of you have done this course, your views and tip please

thanks.

Hey.

I did the course about 3 years ago.

There was 10 of us and we all sat round and listened to a guy withh probably the best beard I've ever seen, rattle on about the safety rules and regulations for about an hour.

Then we took it in turns to operate the lift, forwards, backwards, up, down etc and that was it really.

All done in about 4 hours for all 10 of us.

Cheers

its not really the sort of thing you can fail unless you fall asleep when driving it:D
driving round with it bolt upright could be a bit unnerving at norwich they do it out in the open in the middle of the car park.
good luck

done a refresher recently.you may get a exam which is about twenty questions but all in the book for reference then a short practicle test which is easy.good luck

We had a safety brief for an hour, then a small test, tick box, fail that mate and you should not be doing anything, dead simple, all the answers are given to you basically, really easy.
then into a carpark area where you had to drive a scissor lift around a specified course, reversing between cones etc, then onto a cherry picker same as, but this time you had to take it up to a street lamp as if you were changing a bulb, biggest and hardest part for me although you drive them regular is all the class of around 12lads were watching me do it.

ive got mine booked for the middle of march, and reading through this everyone seems to have had a diffrent experience, test, has anyone done it recently? and how did it go?

Did mine last year. The assesor came out to site. It was really easy, although if you had a jobsworth, he could fail you easily. IIRC, you had a silly checklist that you had to do before driving the machine.

Think the chap doing the 'exam' was provided by the hire company that we were using, may not have been in his interest to fail us all:rolleyes:

yeah that sort of summed up my genral thinking on this, as some people seem to have it straight forward and others get it a bit OTT,

How bizzare!!!!!!!

Did my IPAF last year at HSS depot. Simple exam at the end of the theory lesson, then the driving bit afterwards. Simples!!
