Hi Everyone

I am wanting some advice on IR repeaters. The Sky box and DVD player are to be situated upstairs in a room above where the tv is. I have two HDMI cables coming down the wall but would like to know what I need to control them. I've been looking at IR repeaters but the distance I need is about five metres. Do I need to put a coax in not to view but just to control the units? Something like a TV Link Plus unit?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, I would recommend QED roomlink which is a wired system cat5 or 4 core alarm cable, installed several and no problems what so ever.:winkiss:

You can place an IR repeater in the upstairs room and a sensor next to the TV, the sensor typically connects with a 3.5mm jack, and you can use a simple 3.5mm headphone extension cable to extend it to the electronics. Keene make a suitable unit, although you will also find them on eBay. You will have a little electronics box which you can place next to your sky and dvd, a one or more repeaters. You can either use low power repeaters which stick to the face of each unit, or a single high power repeater placed in front of the units.
I have done lots of installations like this, place the ir detector at the base of the TV, and pointing the remote at the TV in the "watching room" will switch the remotely situated equipment.
It works well! You can even buy wallplate mounted ir detectors so if the tv is wall-mounted the detector can be mounted next to it.
