Is this a common requirement for a dimmable light switch?...

I know there's push on/off dimmer switches, but it seems inevitable to me that the dimmer setting changes a little (i.e. the knob rotates a bit) whenever it's switched on/off.
I want the lighting level to be controllable (i.e. dimmable) occasionally, but for the great majority of the time I want it left precisely as it is! I certianly do not want a dimmer that 'switches on at the start of its rotation, and then steadily increases in brightness', because that would necessitate carefully adjusting it every single time!

So, what I think I want is a normal (on/off) light switch mounted adjacently and in series with a dimmer.
Does that make sense? Is it a reasonable/common requirement?

Thanks for any help or advice.

Yes you could fit a two gang grid switch which has a dimmer module and a standard switch. Supply to standard switch first then into the dimmer. Bare in mind the dimmer switch will only function with the standard switch on. Set the dimmer then use the standard switch for on and off.

I have a lightwaverf smart switch.
It has 2 buttons for on an off, but if you press and hold one of them it dims up or down until you release.
Then next time you turn it on, it only lights up to the dim level that was set, not fully “on”
