Hi.
I have recently qualified and started out on my own, I have asked by a been by a mate who is a plumber to renew the cable to the light fitting and switch in a bathroom that he has stripped back to bare brick for modernisation. They also want a shaver point and extractor fitting. No RCD on CU which was replaced in 2009. Am I right in thinking I need to install a RCBO for the bathroom lighting circuit as it is not a like for like replacement with the additions. I want to get this right as I intend to use it as part of my NICEIC assessment.
Advice appreciated.

Absolutely yes, all circuits feeding into bathroom need to be RCD protected, you may get away with it for true like for likes, but in the case you describe, no question you need the RCD.

yes it will require rcd protection unless you want to go down the 50mm cable depth thing, so changing the breaker for an rcbo would be the most straightforward way of doing it.

nothing to do with the 50mm rule. it's a bathroom. so as kingeri said, RCD essential.

Instructions for fan says requires a 3A fuse. Shows it on the live feed before everything. This to me seemed a bit odd as it would also be protecting the light and the shaver socket. Did think of putting it after but was not sure if I would have to protect the switched live as well as the permanent live.

Yes you need to put it to the initial feed before the light/fan don't use gu10's with 3a fused fans they like to take the fuse out when they blow

From my experience anyway
