Hello people. I sent off all my certificates a while ago, to get a jib card, and got one sent back to me today, a gold card and it says installation electrician on it, and graded electrician. Can anyone tell me whts the difference between the one i have and an approved electrician graded card. Thank you people.

I was issued a electricians card 31 years ago and 2 years later applied for my approved but to get it I had to have passed my B or approved qualification C&G plus my manager had to confirm that I was suitable for it ie could work on my own and supervise but if he did not agree then I had to wait a third year for me to automatically qualify now that was in the olden days but I bet your boots that is still the case ie prove yourself and qualification.

Or you could contact JIB and ask them what you need to do to qualify they wont bite well the Scottish version does not SJIB

To go from installations electrician to approved electrician you need 2391 + AM2 or NVQ3 depending on the age of your initial training

I think, but i may be wrong, that both cards say installation electrician on them, its just the grade reference at the bottom that changes.

If you have an installation electrician grade, without having to do an NVQ3, then you will be able to obtainan approved grade without one.
I believe you will have to wait two years before applying.
Might as well wait untill the card you have needs renewing.
